Yoga es una arte y ciencia antigua que viene de la India. La palabra Yoga (sánscrito) significa unión. Así, yoga es uniendo el cuerpo con la mente y el espíritu con la finalidad de encontrar armonía, equilibrio y felicidad en la vida. Sin embargo, la palabra "Yoga" tiene mucho mas significados teniendo en cuenta los textos sagrados desde los Rig Vedas hasta varias interpretaciones de varias personas de las Sutras de Patanjali así siempre tenemos que tener cierta flexibilidad en nuestra mente cuando estamos leyendo los textos sagrados y si hablamos de non dualismo o de la perspectiva dualista. Yoga no es una religión, sino una filosofía practica de vida. Yoga constituye uno de los seis sistemas esenciales del pensamiento indio (darsanas). Darsana significa ver así haciendo yoga nos permite ver el mundo en una forma nueva y conectar con nuestro ser interior viendo las cosas como son. No hay competición en yoga, sino crecimiento y progresión personal. Cada uno trabaja con su cuerpo encontrando sus limitaciones (que cada uno tiene en una forma u otra) y aprendemos de vivir con estas limitaciones mejor o como superarlos. Puede ser practicada por cualquier persona, sin distinción de sexo, religión o edad.Beneficios de YogaCon el tiempo, duerme mejor, tiene más alegría y alcanza más claridad mental. Yoga Nidra es una técnica de meditación y relajación profunda quen era inventada por Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Se deriva de una antigua practica tantrica (Nyasa). Yoga Nidra se traduce como sueno consciente o relajación profunda con la conciencia despierta y dirigida hacia el interior separándonos de los sentidos exteriores. Por eso Yoga Nidra es un aspecto de Pratyahara (estado de interiorización). Con Yoga Nidra podemos mejorar la concentración, desarrollar la memoria y reestructurar nuestra mente. También lleva a una relajación mas profunda (física, emocioal y mental). La mente oscila entre la vigilia y él sueno. Con practica se puede manejar este sueño consciente mejor adonde la mente se encuentra en un estado mas y más receptivo. A través de la auto-observación poco a poco reconocemos nuestro mundo interior. Aprendemos a encontrar soluciones a nuestros problemas y conflictos. Empezamos a ver las cosas con menos percepciones nubosas - coo son de verdad. Al provocar conscientemente sensaciones opuestas, estimulamos los centros cerebrales que regulan su actividad, desarrollamos cierto control sobre funciones que en principio son involuntarias. Al mismo tiempo, estamos equilibrando la actividad de los hemisferios cerebrales ayudándonos de tener mas desapego a los gustos y disgustos de nuestra vida dualista. Es posible que se produjera alguna fuerte reacción emocional hacia algunas impresiones mentales que surgen de nuestra inconsciente en forma de por ejemplo recuerdos dolorosos. Para esto tenemos que observarlos con conciencia de testigo, sin juzgar ni analizar intelectualmente, sin apego o tomándolas personalmente, aceptando que todo forma parte de nuestra evolución espiritual. Es importante que no dormimos, pero si eso ocurre, cosa que es completamente normal, no pasa nada, poco a poco adquirimos mas concentración y atención. Con la resolución afirmativa (Samkalpa) plantamos una semilla en el subconsciente concientemente y asi producimos cambios positivos en nuestra vida.

She´s learnt to adapt and modify where necessary to different body – mind and her main inspiration has come from the many students coming to practice yoga with her.In London she studied mainly Ashtanga Yoga with various certified teachers and worked for ActionAid as an Official Funding Officer obtaining funds for projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America, which took her to visit Africa and participate in international forums on human rights. After her teacher training course with Godfrey Devereux in 2003, she went to Asia where she stayed off and again for the next two years. India moved her and especially in her first 6 months, she took a rocky ride on the Ganga. Leaving the Ganga behind, she learned to appreciate restorative classes of Arun, a Senior Iyengar Teacher in Bangalore and gave yoga lessons to children in a local NGO.Second time back in India, she did another 3 months intensive yoga teacher training course with another excellent teacher, Karin O´Bannon (Senior Iyengar Teacher, Intermediate Level 3) in the Parmath Niketan which included Yoga Philosophy, Anatomy, and Yoga Nidra with Matagi. This course made her feel ready to go out and teach. The next three months were spent in Thailand giving yoga classes on Ko Tao and studying and enjoying Thai Yoga Massage in Chiang Mai. In 2005 she moved to Southern Spain, where she opened her own yoga studio and continues to organize retreats. She collaborated with Vida Plena (alternative treatment for former drug addicts) giving restorative yoga classes, Thai massage and coordinating the project in the community of Proyecto Hombre. She participated in the Yoga Congress in Marbella in 2009 and in various other local yoga demonstrations as on the local TV channel Onda Jerez. She thanks all her teachers, Petra and Becky for having been my first teachers and friends in London, John Scott for having inspired me especially in the first workshop I attended to take yoga more serious, Godfrey for going deeper, Karin for pushing me to action, Arun in Bangalore for having relaxed and restored me and the children of Samarthanam for having given me so much love and feeling yoga!!Since January 2010 she lives in Barcelona where she continues teaching in various centers, yoga retreat centers (Asturias with SpanishSteps) and Andalucia and in 2011 set exams to be recognised by AEPY (equivalent to the British Wheel of Yoga) as a Yoga Teacher. “Adapt yoga to the individual or the individual to yoga” “to be or not to be in this class that is the question” by Claudia Steinhauser For a beginner coming to his first “class”, the many “names” we give to yoga can be very confusing. The person is confronted with names and labels to distinguish methodologies (Dynamic Yoga, Anusara Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Tri Yoga etc.), schools and / or teacher´s names (e.g Iyengar Yoga, Shivananda Yoga, Kripalu Yoga, Bikram Yoga). All those methods fall into different approaches and relate to ayurvedic constitutions. Some methods “emphasize” more the “fire” element, whereas others more the “water, air, ether or earth” element, although I believe that at the end yoga will achieve the balance in all those elements in an advanced yogi or yogini (you just have to look at some advanced “pitta” Ashtangi flowing in their practice with grace and in harmony with all the elements. They have used fire to achieve this level.However I believe equally that in the beginning we have to be aware that we also can increase some negative aspects and it can go into disequilibrium so we may want to stay a little bit longer in Sarvangasa if we are a “pitta” constitiution and doing Ashtanga.If pitta is not in balance (many aspects such as food, heat etc. can overheat us) we may feel even more irritated and nervous after our practice. This has happened to me and I had my heart pounding leaving some yoga classes in the need of some yogi tea to bring me down. I remember in India an Ashtangi hissing at me when I told her may be she needs a bit rest because she looked tired and exhausted. You can achieve balance (even thus you are a fire person) with a “fire” practice nurturing and fueling the fire within yourself, be friends with this burning in you and let it burn your thinking mind and channel this into a fuel for your devotion to your yoga practice. You just have to learn to nurture yourself and listen you what your body needs whatever practice you do and whatever “name” you advocate. You may feel more attracted to a certain “style” and that´s ok, but to claim there is nothing better than “insert label”, well, well, well….A teacher should encourage a student to feel, nurture and adapt. So yoga needs to be adapted to the individual and the individual needs to adapt to yoga and may be we can show those politics that we can accept, adapt and nurture each other without judging each other all the time.

This guide is reflecting only a few and offers only a vague definition of the many “styles” out there nowadays. The differences overall are usually about emphasis, e.g. focus on strict alignment of the body, specific function, holding the postures, or flowing from one posture to another, incorporating other aspects such as rituals, chants or breathing exercises (pranayama). Many founders of styles share a common lineage (e.g. three of the major founders of styles, K. Pattabhi Jois, founder of Ashtanga Yoga, B. K.S. Iyengar of Iyengar Yoga, and T. K. V. Ananda Yoga is a rmore gentle, inward experience and. was developed by Swami Kriyananda, a direct disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi.Sivananda is one of the world's largest schools of yoga and was developed by Vishnu-devananda and named for his teacher, Sivananda yoga follows a set structure that includes pranayama, classic asanas, and relaxation. Other disciples of Sivananda (Swami Satchidananda) created another style called Integral Yoga, which puts as much emphasis on pranayama and meditation as on postures. Vinyasa is a "style harbourig many styles"” and overall focuses on breath-synchronized movement. Ashtanga (see above founder) for those who want a more physical workout and want to move through a series of postures in a meditative way to built strength, stamina and flexibility. Dynamic Yoga founded by Godfrey Devereux, a yoga that combines elements of Ashtanga, Viniyoga and Iyengar style and emphasizes the non dogmatic approach. Power Yoga based on Ashtanga with teachers such as Baron Baptiste, Rodney Yee etc, Jivamukti Yoga, Vinyasa Flow headed by Shiva Rea, Anusara Yoga founded by John Friend, which means “flowing with grace and “following your heart” or “to step into the current of the Divine Will”, Dharma Yoga etc. etc.Some will focus on a specific sequence of postures (such as in Ashtanga), others will vary the sequence of posture and function of the class. Iyengar; this style of practice is most concerned with bodily alignment, anatomy and using props to support the correct alignment in order to obtain maximum benefits and avoid injury. It might be difficult to imagine the simple act of standing upright involving so many subtle movements and adjustments taking place in the whole body, but attention to detail is a main characteristic of the earthy approach Iyengar uses to unite mind, body and emotion. Kundalini yoga in the tradition of Yogi Bhajan, who brought the style to the West in 1969, The emphasis in Kundalini is on controlling the breath in conjunction with physical movement to free energy. Hot Yoga or Bikram style is practiced in a 95 to 100 degree room, which allows for a loosening of tight muscles and profuse sweating. This is said to be cleansing. The Bikram method is a set series of 26 poses, but may vary in a general Hot Yoga class. Founder Bikram Choudhury studied yoga with Bishnu Ghosh, brother of Paramahansa Yogananda.Viniyoga, a step to step methodology which focuses on that a yoga practice should be adapted to fit the individual and the particular situation of each practitioner. This is the approach developed by Sri. T. Krishnamacharya and continued by his son D.K:S. Desikachar. Key characteristic of this more therapeutic approach is the careful integration of the flow of breath with movement of the spine. The sequencing is adapted to the overall purpose of the practitioner. . OTHER “STYLES” Other yoga styles that are growing in popularity are Forrest Yoga, TriYoga, Moksha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Dharma Yoga, Tibetan yoga, Kripalu, Svaroopa Yoga, and this list can go on forever and will still be incomplete. Conclusion: I think no style is better than another and it's simply a matter of your own personal preference. More important than any style is the student-teacher relationship. At the end Yoga does what yoga does and yoga is what yoga is so as long as you feel positive change within yourself and personal growth, names and labels do not matter. I would always recommend a beginner to try a few classes with different teachers and styles and then to feel and investigate for himself which one is suitable for him / her in the development of one´s own spiritual awareness and higher consciousness. Nuestra cabeza pesa hasta 4 kilos y tenemos que sostener este pese cada día en todas nuestras actividades de leer, conducir, comer, trabajar con ordenadores o cualquier otro trabajo que inicie la actitud de proyectar la cabeza hacia adelante etc. Dolores y tensiones en el cuello y la espalda están más y más común y con tiempo gravedad nos hace que la cabeza se va hacia una actitud hipercifotica y hombres se redondean hacia adelante, nuestro pecho se contrae y la espalda superior se estire más y se encorva. El resultado muchas veces es músculos del cuello acortado, pectorales tensos y músculos de la espalda más débiles. Nuestra estructura postural cambia y músculos que no estaban diseñada a trabajar tan duro tienen sostener nuestra “nueva” postura postural. Además con la tensión emocional y estés nuestros músculos del cuello se contraen aun más.Estos músculos no estaban diseñada para trabajar tan duro Algunos deportes aun agravan esta actitud y muchas veces dolor en el cuello y la espalda es un signo que simplemente estos músculos están cansados. En este taller aprendemos como podemos adaptar nuestra vida cotidiana y utilizar la práctica de yoga (asanas y pranayma) para unos cuellos y espaldas menos tensos y una postura más consiente.
